What would happen if a 17-month-old drank most of a can of Pepsi?

Seriously... does anyone know? Because I left a can on the coffee table and then got wrapped up in some baked on crap on a cookie sheet, and the next thing I know, Ezra's walking into the kitchen telling me that he thinks Matilda is drinking pop. And then Zachary appears with a nearly empty can and tells me he got it from her hand. And when I go out to the living room, she's looking especially bright-eyed and her shirt and pants are soaked and she smells like baby and Pepsi.

Though I'm not a health food nazi, I don't give my kids caffeinated soda; so other than whatever is in the occasional M&M, she's never had caffeine. I'm worried. Very, very worried.

Oddly, nothing much! I changed her clothes, but she still smelled oddly sweet for the rest of the day. She slep unusually well last night, far better than Zachary who was up no less than three times and had me up from 3:30 to 5:30.

Maybe the shot of caffeine reversed her usual craziness and made her docile--like Ritalin for babies!

Once I gave Norah some Dr Pepper. She is usually a very intense little baby, what with her FEELings and all. But that day, she was like some hopped up little demon. It was scary.

Isaiah never had cafffeine either- until, one day, I left my coffee mug on the coffe table. He drank it all. He is now two...and, I am ashamed to admit, an avid coffee drinker. I mean, he will totally ask for it by name. He can even ask in Spanish. I hope he won't be 34 inches tall his whole life!! Other than that fear, he has had no change in personality, or hyperactivity. She will be fine! ;)

When my son was about 10 months old my 12 year old babysitter gave him Mountain Dew, a whole 8 ounce bottle full. He was wild eyed and running around for about 4 hours then totally crashed. Even today at almost 16 years old he still gets squirrelly on caffiene.
At least it was something that was supposed to be ingested by humans, my girl tried drinking furniture polish last Friday. It, unfortunately, did not make her poops lemony fresh. ;)

I saw your post on Dooce's Blog -- I'm a Daycare Provider, too, and let me say I totally feel your pain. 100%. And I would have been more concerned with developing a sweet tooth over the caffeine.

Hang in there.

I see you wrote this a few weeks ago. Has the caffeine worn off YET?

The result was nice... maybe I'll give them an afternoon coke to calm them down?

Days later... but it's so funny that she slept unusually well! Have you ever had to give her Benadryl? Winds my kids up like 8-day clocks!

I think it's the repeated exposure to pepsi that fries a kid - if my neighbor's 2 y/o is any indication.
